Perhaps medical science is the best industry in science because of the it made possible the inventions and discoveries that was once only imagined. Different solutions were found to cure different diseases acquired from viruses and bacteria. For example, thousands of residents died because yellow fever has got no medicine. But overtime, because of these hard working discoverers, vaccine for the fever was invented. Clodronate liposome is surely one of discoveries that is going to play a significant role in medicine industry.

Clodronate also known as clodronate disodium and clodronic acid is a first generation non nitrogenous bisphosphonate. It is a drug scientifically approved, tested, and used to prevent and treat the cases of osteoporosis especially to the women who have reached the post menopausal period. It is also used in the experimental medicine to deplete macrophages.

Macrophages are white blood cells inside tissues. They are produced through division of monocytes, a type of white blood cell which was formed in the bone marrow and spleen which ingests particles of cell and huge foreign particles. So basically macrophage is the center of immune system. It defends the body from any invasion of different kinds of parasites and foreign transplant.

Liposomes are the microscopic bubbles which are consist of fatty liquids. These are used in cell biology to study the cell and find cures to any diseases found in the cell. They are drugs that are used to help treat and cure cancer. But it does not only limit to cancer, scientists also approved that these drugs can be used in curing other diseases. It is made of liquid and phospholipids.

Science discovered clodronate liposome acts for the suppression of the macrophage. Indeed immune system defends the invasion of infectious viruses and bacteria. Through immune response, it will attack the invaders that will cause diseases to the organ or body. However, the immune system can be the source of disease in the body.

In natural circumstances, the healthy immune system will cope diseases up like coughs and colds. In the contrary, the damaged system will attack every cells it will eat each particles, both the healthy and damaged. When this doom happens, severe illnesses will take place affecting the body from functioning well.

The system protects the body from foreign invasion, as mentioned earlier. However, it will also create damages resulted by transplant rejection. This rejection happens when a a newly transplanted organ was placed in the body. As this happens, the system will attack the cells forcefully leading to rejection. One of the effects of the rejection is the autoimmune disorder or the identification of healthy cells wrongly and trying to fight off them because they thought that they are foreign.

Because of the autoimmune disorders that could actually happen, here comes the discovery of the mighty liposome. This is composed of bisphosphonate and will deplete macrophages. After it was transported, macrophage will detect that it is alien. In result, it will engulf it through the thing so called phagocytosis.

Clodronate liposome also helps to improve anti tumor effects caused by anti tumor drugs during cancer. This may not be able to cure the disease but somehow it will increase plasma absorption. Though this discovery is of great significance in the medical science, before actually resorting in taking it, consult you doctor first.
