The scalpel is an instrument that has a set purpose and function in the clinical setting. The equipment is designed to cut into and to excise soft tissue, using a highly sharpened blade in order to perform this function.

Most scalpels are designed to have an ergonomic handle that has a blade attached to the head, which is gripped by the professional that is performing the procedure. The handle is meant to provide comfort and balance as well as allowing the person to apply torque force when necessary.

The blades of these units are sharpened to extreme lengths, in order to cut into and excise tissue with a relative minimum of effort. There are several benefits involved with having a blade so sharpened, which benefit both the doctor and the patient.

Forceps are also a common sight to behold in the medical setting. These are grasping instruments, which give the user an incredible amount of precision and accuracy based around a small tip.

The interesting thing about obsidian is that it is technically glass, instead of being made out of metal, and is therefore a departure from the traditional design. That being said, obsidian allows for incredibly fine precision, leaving an absolute minimum of damage in its wake.

The equipment fills a highly important role in surgical settings, because it allows for doctors to expose problems and remove them, based on the need that it at hand.

Everything is designed to work in tandem and according to need with other instruments. Essentially, every operation is a matter of picking the right tools and applying them together to get a good result set.
