The Health Benefits Of Spices

We all know that adding spices to our foods adds flavor. Furthermore, they are an excellent alternative for boosting taste without adding extra sodium, which if eaten in high amounts can increase the likelihood of developing high blood pressure. While many of us use spices in our everyday cooking, most do not know of the health benefits of spices. Certain spices have the extra benefit of warding off disease, infection, and even boosting metabolism.

Cardamom, a popular spice used in Indian foods, is high in potassium, calcium and iron. These are often vitamins and minerals that women are deficient in. Potassium helps to regulate heart rate and blood pressure, iron helps red blood cells form and calcium strengthens the bones. Cardamom is antioxidant rich and may help to ward off disease. It can be used in both savory and sweet dishes that are sure to please everyone.

Oregano is great when paired with Italian dishes but its health properties are just as amazing as the taste. This is a natural anti-bacterial so it can fight off infections. Use it by adding it to pasta sauces or sprinkle it on your pizza.

Cumin is great in sauces and also contains anti-oxidants known to ward off disease and infection. It also helps reduce gas in the intestines and aids in digestion by increase intestinal motility.

Parsley may seem like it is just there to decorate the plate but don't hesitate to take a taste. If you had a meal that was particularly heavy on the garlic, chew on some parsley to combat bad breath. It may also aid in the passing of a kidney stone, and prevent plaque build-up in arteries. To add in your diet, add it to sandwiches or sauces.

Ginger can also reduce inflammation and so it is good for relieving swelling and pain from arthritis. It is good for decreasing nausea as well. It may also stop blood clots from forming so it is helpful for those about to undergo a surgical procedure or for those at high risk of forming blood clots. Ginger can be chopped, shredded, or used in powder form in sauces or soups.

Rosemary pairs well with chicken and can be added to a dry rub to create flavor in all poultry's. It also prevents the gene mutations that are responsible for the formation of cancers. It may also help to ward off a heart attack by preventing blood vessel damage.

Spices not only make food taste delicious, but the health benefits of spices are now becoming widely known. Using these and other spices generously and in everyday cooking can help to decrease blood pressure, alleviate pain, and ward off disease. Using spices can aid in good health and well-being. So skip the salt and instead add various spices to your meals to increase flavor and aid in obtaining a healthy body.
